Every nation has its past, its wounds, its flaws, and its virtues. Its own unexpected successes and uncalculated defeats. Its own opinions, beliefs, and judgments. A unique history told by so many different mouths that one may never truly distinguish the real from the imagined.
The Gifts and Superpowers of Quebec
Each community also has its own gifts and superpowers. Quebec is very unique and very powerful when it comes to its authentic and innate gifts. It is so rich, so brave, and so resilient. So gentle, so strong, and so mysterious. Quebec possesses a collective wisdom and power that few other peoples can even imagine possessing or mastering today.
And yet, we have all this at home and we don’t even see it. We don’t value what we have. We don’t assign value to what is truly important to us. We don’t see how powerful we are or how enormous our collective heart already is. We don’t use our superpowers coherently together to create a reality that makes sense to us. Gradually, we lose ourselves because we are forgetting who we are and where we come from.
It seems we no longer know what the real soul of Quebec is. And yet, if we listen a little more closely, we could hear its voice so colorful, so grand, and so inspiring. We could feel its unique power in our own hearts and see very clearly how Quebec is a rare gem with a creative potential that could literally change the world.
The Diversity of Quebec
Quebec is made up of several different social subgroups: the Indigenous peoples, the old-stock Quebecers, the English, other immigrants, or more or less temporary travelers. This very diverse population composition is one of the most important opportunities to build future visions and collective strategies that highlight our uniqueness and cultural diversity, contributing to collective well-being rather than generating more polarization due to our differences.
If we manage to harmoniously co-create a shared and pleasant reality together by truly embracing our diversity inclusively, Quebec will become a world champion in systemic innovation based on diversity, creativity, and collaboration.
Quebec already has everything it needs to start a systemic transformation and regeneration at all levels simultaneously: social, environmental, and economic. In doing so, it can also become an example for others of how to establish a local system that is coherent with the basic principles of how Nature works and what our Humanity truly needs at this moment.
The Transformation of Quebec
Quebec already has the expertise, the tools, and especially far too many passionate and motivated people to implement one of the most innovative and powerful collective visions and strategies in the world to carry out a deep social transformation. And, honestly, if Quebec can’t do it, I don’t know who can.
Why is it so easy to speak about it with so much faith and conviction that Quebec holds the secret key to spearhead the most inspiring and effective social revolutions in the world? Because Quebec has already done it!
Barely 70 years ago, Quebec achieved the impossible. A group of somewhat philosophical people asked how to make our societal system more coherent and more efficient with the authentic needs and desires of the people living in it. We called it the Quiet Revolution. In less than 10 years, almost the entire social system was transformed. Everything was reformed: energy interdependence, the healthcare and education systems, women’s rights and inheritance laws, macroeconomic structure, political and cultural relations, religion and science, art, and our general openness to the world.
In less than 10 years, Quebec completely transformed its social identity and strategic positioning both in Canada and in the world without any civil war or other serious social disruption. Quebec successfully combined the notion of radical revolution with peaceful transition at the same time. By using wisdom, passion, creativity, love of personal and collective sovereignty, Quebec managed to change its system in a very short time with much pleasure and national pride.
Honestly, there is truly something to be proud of. Bravo, Quebec. You know how to change the world without destroying what we have already co-created. You know how to transform the system by building on our strengths and qualities, not on our differences or flaws.
The Current Challenges
Quebec knows how and what to do. But, doing it again today will be a bit more complex than it was 70 years ago. It will be more complex in part because there is even more diversity and social, economic, and environmental challenges than 70 years ago. Also, because politics and economics are already global, and reclaiming our power from the global system directly is a much more arduous task than doing so in more modest geographical regions.
Also, because back then, it was more of a revolution of the old-stock Quebecers than of anyone else. Today, if we want to succeed, our revolution must be radically inclusive of all subgroups of the population in Quebec. Establishing a co-creation environment between Indigenous peoples and allophones, including several very distinct ethnic groups, is very difficult, if not still impossible in certain contexts and social settings even today. The reason for this is very simple: ancestral trauma.
Ancestral Healing and Trust
We cannot truly reconcile, collaborate, and co-create with others if we have not healed the wounds of our ancestors and their relationships with each other beforehand. If there is still unintegrated or incompletely forgiven pain in our roots related to our history and past, we cannot fully trust each other on projects as large as a societal revolution.
If we don’t trust each other, we cannot change our system without societal disorder. All those who are not included in the vision and strategy of the collective transition will take the position of the opposition and will sooner or later create polarization in the system directly, which could turn into a civil war or something else at any moment.
Our cultural diversity is our greatest advantage in terms of innovation and societal transformation as a whole, if only we manage to embrace it properly instead of fleeing from it or banishing it.
Radical inclusivity of our incredible diversity and our collective uniqueness are our keys to implementing a metamorphosis of our society that is in our image. Creative. Grand. Pleasant. Inspiring and all-Powerful.
