I remember

Do I have the right? To remember
Knowing that I am
just a simple immigrant.
Given that I have a slight accent
one might say I shouldn't
quite understand.
What exactly do we remember?
Whom? Why? And finally,
did we ever get to where we wanted so much?
What is the use of memory?
If we continually repeat
our own history.
I also remember very well.
Because I walk this way
with our experiences and our sufferings.
I live, I dream, and I love here.
Just like you and them
I create my childhood story.
And, this has been for even longer
than the place of my ancestors
or at least, in appearance.
I chose to make my life here too
Even if I am here
just a poor immigrant.
Still, it’s my home
And no, it’s not your place here.
Well, you are so right
The Earth is my home.
But, how to be free
in the world, if even
my body no longer knows how.
How to love without
being able to truly speak
How to change
without daring to be vulnerable
How to make peace
without forgiving oneself.
...
We remember.
And no, I no longer believe in it.
We remember the causes,
but we don't seem to speak much
of the consequences.
We point fingers and mock
even in our history books
our mistakes and victories.
We play the victim and the hero.
Without ever understanding
that maybe that’s the cause
of so much of our suffering.
And what if, no one is to blame.
What would the world be like
for this kind of re-experience?
And, what if we created a world without weapons.
Without power and without glory for the kings,
but indeed for us and the future of our children.
For those who walk on Earth
And not the sly ones who steal the skies
both the real ones and those in our imagination.
....
I choose life, love, and nature.
The consequences on them
that's what creates my coherence.
It gives meaning and it regenerates
even our abundance.
My sovereignty is
my true youth.
Life in freedom is
a total joy
which will certainly change
the depth of our
real deliverance.
I remember who I am.
And, I have the right to that,
even if I am just
one of many immigrants.
